Core Description

To ensure the stability, efficiency, and security of IT systems and operational infrastructure by managing system engineering tasks, monitoring performance, and supporting business-critical applications. The role bridges technical expertise with operational oversight, ensuring seamless service delivery. This is a Full-time role is based in the mines in Hotazel.

Key Deliverables / Primary Functions

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor system performance and availability, ensuring uptime and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve incidents, escalating where necessary.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and stakeholders.
  • Document workflows, procedures, and system configurations.
  • Ensure compliance with ITIL/ISO standards and organizational policies.
  • Automate routine tasks to improve efficiency.
  • Work closely with operations, network, and application teams.
  • Support project rollouts and system migrations.
  • Provide input into strategic IT planning and infrastructure development.

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, operating systems, and enterprise applications.
  • Manage virtualization platforms, cloud environments, and storage solutions.
  • Implement system upgrades, patches, and security updates.

  • Proficiency in Windows/Linux server administration.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP) would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls).
  • Experience with monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds).

Minimum Qualifications

NQF 6: 3 year Degree/ Diploma/ National Diploma in Computer Science or Engineering
OR NQF 4: Grade 12

Additional Education -Preferred /Advantage

Experience

  • 3+ years of handson experience in enterprise network engineering.
  • Knowledge of routing and switching (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, STP, VLANs, etc.).
  • Strong experience with Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, or similar enterprise networking platforms.
  • Proven experience with firewalls (e.g., Palo Alto, Fortinet, Cisco ASA/Firepower).
  • Solid understanding of network security principles and best practices.
  • Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, PCNSE, or equivalent are preferred.
