Core Description

Accountable for establishing, governing, and advancing the cybersecurity posture, technology risk management, and digital trust capability across BCX to ensure that systems, platforms, data, and digital services are secure, compliant, resilient, and trusted.

Key Deliverables / Primary Functions

  • Define and continuously evolve BCX’s cybersecurity, risk and digital trust strategy, roadmap, governance frameworks, standards, and control architectures aligned to business priorities and regulatory expectations.
  •  Lead end to end cybersecurity operations including threat detection, identity and access management, vulnerability management, incident response, and continuous monitoring across enterprise platforms and services.
  • Oversee cybersecurity risk assessments, control effectiveness reviews, readiness audits, and compliance assurance for critical applications, infrastructure, cloud environments, and digital services.
  • Establish and manage governance structures covering policies, standards, control frameworks, architecture alignment, and continuous assurance mechanisms to maintain security maturity.
  • Ensure adherence to internal controls, regulatory obligations, industry standards, and contractual security requirements while strengthening organisational resilience and audit readiness.
  • Drive digital trust initiatives through secure-by-design and privacy-by-design practices, data protection alignment, digital identity integrity, and embedding zero trust security principles.
  • Manage major security incidents, breach escalations, investigations, remediation planning, third party security risk oversight, vendor assurance, and resilience testing programmes.
  • Lead cybersecurity capability development through strong leadership of specialists, awareness programmes, behavioural change initiatives, performance dashboards, and reporting to Exco and governance forums.

Minimum Qualifications

Three-year degree (NQF 7) in Information Systems, Computer Science or related field.
Postgraduate qualification in Cybersecurity, Risk, Governance, or Digital Trust is preferable.

Additional Education -Preferred /Advantage

Additional studies in security frameworks, governance, compliance, or digital identity are advantageous.

Experience

  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in cybersecurity, technology risk management, governance, compliance, or digital trust roles.
  • Proven experience managing security operations, cybersecurity governance, incident response, or enterprise risk functions.

Certifications

Cloud platform certifications (Azure Security Engineer, AWS Security) add strong value.
ITIL, COBIT, ISO 27001 Lead Implementer/Auditor beneficial.
Professional certifications are highly advantageous (e.g., CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC, CEH, CCSP).
